Space Weather Analysis, Space Weather Predictions, and Space Weather Sensors

Multiple resources are available for monitoring space weather and provide advanced warnings to aerospace industry, spacecraft and power grid operators. We routinely monitor available real-time information from Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) spacecraft, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) websites and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) spacecraft resources to support development of operating strategies and development of warning criteria. We also support development of contingency procedures in the event of unexpected large solar events as described in Presidential Executive Order Coordinating Efforts to Prepare the Nation for Space Weather Events and Congress's Space Weather Research and Forecasting Act.

The Senate recently unanimously passed a bill intended to support space weather research and planning to protect critical infrastructure from solar storms.
